Singer Style - Rosemary Clooney

Hello my vintage lovelies!

I had been reading Rosemary Clooney's autobiography, Girl Singer, when I came across an interesting paragraph about how her and Edith Head had worked on creating and maintaining a signature style. It suddenly gave me inspiration for a blog post series, Singer Style. You see, most vintage style icons are movie stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Marilyn Monroe, but so many singers had a wonderful sense of fashion too. They had to create a style for the same reasons movie stars did, to be noticed, to be emulated, and to be complimented. In order for that to happen, they had to make a "signature" style, something that they could become known for. So I decided to start with Rosemary Clooney.

Rosemary's style is a very wearable one, even today. It was ladylike yet girlish, and fairly casual. She was the image of the moral fifties housewife so her look was also quite modest. Here are some of the types of things she wore that you can try out to get the look:

1. Turned out collars

This makes her seem fun and free, but doesn't take away the polish of the look.

2. Cinched waist, full skirt

This combination was popular during the fifties, but few wore it as well (or as often) as Rosemary. She rarely wore pencil skirts.

3. Curled bob

This is her most iconic look. Her recognizable glossy bob was either curled by her ears, or in a defined pageboy.

Hope this post made your day a little brighter! Comment below telling me which singer you would like to see next. Thank you and God bless!
